Thousands of anti-government protesters streamed away from Bangkok’s international airport today in buses and pick-up trucks, ending an eight-day siege that stranded hundreds of thousands of foreign travelers in Thailand. The lifting of the blockade in what looked like a victory parade came after a court disbanded the governing party and disqualified from office the prime minister, Somchai Wongsawat, for electoral fraud. The first passenger flight to Suvarnabhumi international in more than a week arrived today, bringing travellers from the resort island of Phuket. The airports authority warned it would be several days before the arrival of the first international flight, though the hope is normal services will resume soon to take 230,000 trapped tourists home.

Murray. “Hopefully, it’s the beginning of the rebirth of the airport.” Direct Air’s first flight into Worcester — a 149-seat A320 — landed on time. While Murray, U.S. Rep. James P. McGovern, D-Worcester, and other dignitaries held a small ceremony, Massport officials escorted the media through the plane and kept the 82 passengers scheduled to fly from Worcester to Orlando-Sanford International Airport moving.
